What kind of dance do you teach?

Just Jivin' teaches modern jive. This is an easy access, social dance for all age groups taught in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. It is a partner dance, where men are taught to lead and girls to follow so that you can dance with anybody in the class.

The music we play ranges across all styles and time periods from the fifties to the latest chart hits

Is it easy to learn?

Yes! It is easy to learn -

You can pick up the basic moves in only a few weeks by joining the Beginners class which starts at 8.15 at every one of our venues. It is NOT a course, so don’t worry if you miss a week. We also hold regular workshops to help you get better faster.

Will it keep me fit?

Yes, but it is also GREAT FUN - Keep fit & enjoy yourself at the same time. The emphasis is on enjoying yourself.

Do I need a partner?

Modern jive is a partner dance, but there is NO NEED TO BRING A PARTNER - Making new friends is part of Just Jivin’. We make sure you meet and dance with everyone. We also hold regular freestyle dance nights so that you can try out your new skills.

How much does it cost?

The entire evening costs £6, (or concessions), which includes two classes. You will need to become a member, but this is free. On your first visit you will be given a Membership information pack plus money off vouchers for your next 3 class visits.

Dances usually cost between £7 - £9,  depending on the venue and the entertainment provided.

What should I wear?

For classes, clothing is casual with men wearing t-shirts or ordinary shirts. Ladies wear trousers or skirts as long as they give you room to move.

You will get hot so a change of top, a towel and some extra deodorant is recommended!

As for shoes, trainers are not recommended; any shoes that will stay on and have a smooth sole will be fine, leather soles are ideal. There are special dance shoes that you might want to buy once you have had a bit of practise, but ordinary shoes are what most people wear.
